What is a laban?

Laban refers to individuals who specialize in Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), a method and language for describing, visualizing, interpreting, and documenting all varieties of human movement. These professionals, often called Laban Movement Analysts, work in fields such as dance, physical therapy, acting, and sports to help people understand and improve their movement patterns. They use the LMA framework to observe and analyze movement qualities, which can enhance performance, communication, and overall physical awareness. Laban Movement Analysts may also teach, choreograph, or consult on movement in various settings.
