What is interventional radiology?

Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions throughout the body. These procedures are performed using technologies like X-rays, CT scans, ultrasound, and MRI to guide tiny instruments, such as catheters and needles, to the area of interest.
