To get a job working with IONM, your qualifications must include current certification in Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring (CNIM), as well as significant prior experience in a clinical setting. Many employers prefer candidates who have earned a bachelor’s degree or completed an accredited electroneurodiagnostic or neurodiagnostic technology program. Some positions require specialization in pediatrics, geriatrics, or another field. You should be familiar with sterilization techniques and applicable safety and confidentiality practices, and you must be comfortable explaining your findings and discussing outcomes with patients and their loved ones.
