How to become an RHIA?

To become an RHIA, you need to have several years of experience in medical data management, often as a registered health information technician or lower level administrator. Additionally, you need to earn a bachelor’s degree in an accredited health information management program. Following your degree, if you are interested in obtaining RHIA certification, you need to complete the course and pass the exam administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Other important skills include technical proficiency and good interpersonal communication.
