To become an operations research analyst, you need an educational background in operations research or management science. You must be familiar with common analysis methods, such as the stochastic-process model and Monte Carlo simulation. Other essential skills include the ability to operate all relevant industry computer software. Most operations research analysts earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree, typically in operations research or management science, but studying a related field such as business administration, mathematics, or computer science is also sufficient. Almost all industries hire operations research analysts, although the best-paying positions are typically with manufacturing companies or government agencies.
