To become an MFT intern, you need a master's degree in counseling or a closely related field, as well as a strong grasp of the policies and procedures related to marriage and family therapy. Because you may work with children, some states require a background check and a fingerprint card. First aid and CPR certification are also beneficial. To be successful in this position, you must be comfortable working with clients from diverse backgrounds. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal, communication, and observational skills, along with critical thinking ability.
