The primary qualifications needed to become an installation manager include a high school diploma or GED certificate and several years of experience in home building, installation, or a closely related field. Previous customer service or project management experience is strongly preferred. Other valuable skills for this position include strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of conflict resolution strategies, a functioning understanding of relevant regulations and codes, and strong communication skills. Most employers expect you to have a driver's license and a vehicle so you can visit customers and work sites as needed. Some industries expect installation managers to have additional certification, experience, or training.
