How to become an incident commander?

The qualifications you need to become an incident commander (IC) depend on the industry in which you want to work. In the information technology (IT) industry, you need formal training or possibly a bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or disaster recovery. However, to work as an IC in the emergency response industry, prior experience as a firefighter, police officer, EMT, paramedic, or military is crucial to developing the skills and character necessary to handle the responsibilities of a challenging role.
