To become an Encoder, start by earning the educational qualifications. It’s possible for Encoders to find jobs with a high school diploma or GED, but you will likely find more opportunities and higher pay when you obtain a bachelor’s degree. In either case, it’s important that you become proficient in skills including computer literacy, typing, data entry, basic math, and organization. Gain work experience handling responsibilities such as preparing client lists, doing payroll, compiling tax documents, and focusing on attention to detail with entry-level work or internships to eventually become an Encoder through a promotion or targeted job search.
