The qualifications you need to pursue a career as an anatomist depends on your specialization. To work in a clinical role, you need a medical degree (an M.D. or D.O.) as well as a license to practice medicine. To become a professor, you need a Ph.D. instead of or in addition to a medical degree. The responsibilities of an anatomist center on medical and biological research. Their duties include gathering and analyzing statistical data, working with patients to diagnose illnesses, identifying treatments, using medical laboratory and surgical equipment, and speaking in front of groups.
