How to become a vehicle inspector?

Career: Vehicle Inspector

Some vehicle inspectors work for businesses that buy and sell cars while other inspectors work for companies that operate commercial transport vehicles. Businesses that buy and sell cars typically want inspectors to be mechanics and many prefer Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified mechanics. Companies that operate commercial transport vehicles, either motor carriers or intermodal equipment, must have their vehicles or trucks inspected annually. Vehicle inspectors for these companies must meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) inspector qualifications. To become an FMCSA qualified inspector, you must take a federal- or state-sponsored training program, or meet minimum training and experience qualifications.
