How to become a solutions architect?

Career: Solutions Architect

To become a solutions architect, you need at least a bachelor’s degree in a field related to information technology (IT), computer science, or software engineering. However, many employers look to hire candidates with a master’s degree. Many colleges provide certificate programs that will give you much of the graduate coursework you need to secure a job. These programs can help you gain the specialized skills required for the career in a much shorter time. In addition to systems architecture and IT, you should also study software design and development. After your formal education, it is beneficial, though not mandatory, to obtain certifications in certain specialties. ICMG Enterprise Architecture and The Open Group both offer certification programs that can bolster your resume. You should also remember that this is not an entry-level position. Most solutions architect jobs require five or more years in an IT, network administration, or even software developer role.
