Qualifications for a signals intelligence analyst include a high school diploma or GED certificate and completion of the Electronic Signals Intelligence course. Civilian positions often require a bachelor’s degree and ten years of IT experience. Working for the Army or National Guard, you are required to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery tests and then work through 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 24 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, with some work in a classroom and some in the field. An Air Force position only requires 7.5 weeks of basic training and completion of Airmen’s Week. It is crucial that you have critical thinking skills, an interest in working with radio equipment, and are able to stay alert when completing repetitive tasks. You must pass a background check to earn the necessary security clearance, or already have DoD Top Secret clearance, and be between the ages of 17 and 39.
