How to become a signalman?

The qualifications needed for a career as a signalman start with a high school diploma or GED certificate. Following graduation, you can apply for an apprenticeship with a railway network. This apprenticeship helps you gain the skills needed for the job through hands-on experience, under the watchful eye of a veteran signalman. You learn about signal control and how to help keep train passengers safe. You may also be required to complete public safety training that complies with Federal Railroad Administration standards.
