How to become a ship pilot?

Career: Ship Pilot

The qualifications for a career as a ship pilot begin with a bachelor’s degree in a marine or maritime related field. Some common examples of this training include marine transportation, marine engineering, maritime operations, marine engineering systems, and shipyard management. Since the ship pilot is a senior level position, you need to spend time gaining valuable skills and experience while working various jobs, like deck officer and third mate, on a ship. You should also seek certification as a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) through the US Coast Guard and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
