Becoming a shift manager often requires years of experience working in the food service industry as a cook or server. Although you can learn essential shift manager skills during on-the-job training, receiving additional training at a postsecondary education institution may be beneficial to meeting qualifications of the position more quickly. High school diplomas are typically enough of an educational requirement, but some restaurants may prefer additional education.
