A Security Guard should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent combined with some professional experience working in a security role. More often than not, employers demand a background check and drug test before making an offer of employment. While not always required, prior experience in the military or a law enforcement agency is a plus. A valid driver’s license is mandatory. Some Security Guard positions are armed, and in those cases, you must be at least 21 years old and maintain a valid firearms license specific to your state. Security Guards are able to greet customers and offer directions within a facility; communication and professionalism are essential to this role. You should possess basic computer skills and be familiar with security-related equipment.
