How to become a science teacher?

Career: Science Teacher

To become a science teacher for elementary school positions, you need a bachelor’s degree in education. For middle and high school positions, a degree in one of the sciences, such as chemistry, biology, or physics, serves as qualification. A master’s degree in teaching or education is a plus; a higher degree usually offers a higher pay scale. Teacher certification is required to teach at public schools, but may not be necessary for private school positions. Research the requirements in the state where you wish to work. Most schools also require you to be fingerprinted, pass a criminal background check, and complete continuing education courses throughout your career to maintain your teaching certificate. Meet with principals at schools in your area and ask other teachers to find job opportunities as a science teacher.
