How to become a sandblaster?

There are no formal educational qualifications to become a sandblaster; however, completing training classes can help ensure that you learn proper sandblasting techniques and safe operation of sandblasting equipment. Employers typically expect candidates to have a minimum of 6 months of sandblasting experience using power tools. As a sandblaster, your duties involve operating a sandblasting machine gun to clean a surface using a combination of compressed air and an abrasive material such as sand. Your gun can strip dirt, paint, adhesives, and other materials from a surface or even etch glass. You must be able to handle this often physically demanding workload. Your responsibilities are to properly maintain and care for your equipment and to follow safety procedures to ensure not only your safety but also the safety of people around your work area. Therefore, it’s essential to understand written and verbal instructions and to develop strong communication skills.
