How to become a resort manager?

To become a resort manager, you need an associate or bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. However, high school students with an interest in pursuing this career may earn certification from a Lodging Management Program (LMP), which is offered by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (EIAHLA) during their junior and senior years. Completion of this program as a high school student and 160 hours of work experience in the industry results in full certification and may bypasses the need for college requirements. Regardless of what educational route you choose, securing a position as a resort manager usually begins with an assistant manager or a manager-in-training role. During this period, you learn the responsibilities for the job, which include overseeing different departments of a resort or hotel, handling customer questions and complaints, organizing employee schedules, and maintaining daily operations to ensure that guests have a pleasant experience. Training periods can last anywhere from 6-18 months, and after that, you may be promoted to department or general manager in a resort.
