How to become a professional engineer?

Career: Professional Engineer

You need at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a specialty subfield, to become a professional engineer (PE). You must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam to gain initial licensure. After at least four years of experience working in the field as an intern or engineer in training, you can take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam to finish the process of gaining your professional engineer’s license. Additional qualifications include strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills, as well as experience with computer technology, especially computer-aided design (CAD).
