To become a political writer, you need qualifications as a journalist, including expert-level skills in writing, communications, interviewing, proofreading, and editing. These skills are most often gained through completion of a bachelor’s degree program in English, journalism, or a related field. Some positions require a graduate degree in journalism. You also need experience with politics in some form, such as working for a politician’s or government office or writing a political column for a local newspaper.
