How to become a pipeline controller?

The primary qualifications for this position are a high school diploma and the ability to work long, rotating shifts with overtime as needed in emergencies. Employers prefer applicants who have a technical certification, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, but these are not strictly required. Alternatives to education include several years of relevant military or industry experience. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of this position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to be on-site within an hour during emergencies, a working knowledge of hydraulic principles, and color vision. Many companies provide several months of training to new hires, so previous experience in a pipeline controlling role is helpful but not required.
