How to become a piercer?

To become a piercer, you do not have to follow a specific course of study. However, professional associations suggest undertaking an apprenticeship. The Association of Professional Piercers sets out guidelines and curriculum suggestions for such a training program. They also recommend earning certification in CPR and attending a blood-borne pathogens course, such as one offered by the Red Cross. Some states have licensing requirements for professional piercers and the studios where they work. Licensing requires passing an exam concerning local health and safety regulations and, sometimes, basic anatomy. While these are mostly optional qualifications, finding a position at a piercing parlor is difficult without following this outline.
