How to become a patent agent?

The skills and qualifications you need as a patent agent include a degree and professional registration. Regardless of your educational background, you need to register with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Most patent agents have at least a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field related to the type of intellectual property with which they work. Some patent agents have a background in law and are on a career path to eventually become a patent attorney, which requires finishing law school and passing the bar exam.
