How to become a lighting engineer?

Career: Lighting Engineer

There are no formal educational qualifications to become a lighting engineer. Experience and proven skills are most important for finding work. However, a bachelor’s degree in lighting design can help you develop those skills and get your foot in the door. Especially if your focus is theater lighting, there are ample opportunities to gain on-the-job experience as a student. After graduating, look for jobs in the industry in which you want to work. Local theaters and small film productions will often hire entry-level technicians, but most lighting engineers start at lower positions and work their way up, especially in film.
