How to become a hospital chaplain?

To become a hospital chaplain, you need a bachelor's degree in theology, counseling, or a related field. Some positions require a master’s degree in divinity (MDiv) or similar area, and may even prefer candidates with a doctoral degree. These degree programs provide training in the basics of pastoral and clinical care, patient privacy laws, and the foundations of various faiths to gain the skills and qualifications needed to fulfill the responsibilities of this career. Earn certification from the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Volunteer at a hospital or acquire a position working with a certified chaplain to gain experience working with patients.
