How to become a graduate assistant football coach?

The primary qualifications for a job as a graduate assistant football coach are a bachelor's degree and a thorough understanding of football and NCAA regulations. Many people pursuing this position do so after playing football so they can continue to remain involved with the sport. Schools prefer applicants who have experience in their NCAA Division, so your choice of colleges may influence which schools consider your applications. This does not mean that you must attend a Division I school to get a job as a graduate assistant football coach, but it is easier to coach at the level with which you are familiar. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of this position may require working and studying at unusual hours, mentoring student-athletes, and making independent travel.
