To become a fire captain, you need to move up through the ranks as a firefighter. In addition to your work experience and skills, you need to have multiple certifications and a minimum number of credit hours studying fire science, fire science technology, and closely related subjects or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in one of those subjects.
