How to become a fire captain?

To become a fire captain, you need to move up through the ranks as a firefighter. In addition to your work experience and skills, you need to have multiple certifications and a minimum number of credit hours studying fire science, fire science technology, and closely related subjects or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in one of those subjects. Additional qualifications vary by district and department, but to become a captain, you must at least be a certified EMT and have a valid driver’s license.
