The qualifications needed to start a career as a fire alarm installer are an associate degree in fire alarm technology or a certificate in fire alarm systems. The Electronic Security Association (ESA) offers a training course that results in the Certified Fire Alarm Technician (CFAT) designation. You can also earn a Fire Alarm Systems certification through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
