How to become a DoD firefighter?

The primary qualifications for a career as a Department of Defense firefighter are a high school diploma, experience as a certified firefighter, and the ability to pass a background investigation. Some DoD firefighters must be able to obtain a federal security clearance, the level of which varies based on your location and the things to which you might have access. Employers prefer applicants who have experience at military or commercial facilities, certification to handle hazardous materials, and certification to provide basic life support and CPR treatment as needed. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of this position requires physical fitness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remember and follow directions in high-stress scenarios.
