To become a disability attorney, you must earn a bachelor's degree and a law degree. You must also pass the state bar exam and continually update your knowledge of Social Security rules and other areas of law. You can complete an internship to gain hands-on experience with advocate responsibilities, see how a lawyer works a case, learn tips to win, understand the fee structure of various duties and services, such as helping clients claim benefits, and gain knowledge on supplemental security income (SSI). Additional qualifications include excellent negotiating skills, training in disability law, and the ability to work with people of different backgrounds.
