For a career as a desktop publisher, you need extensive experience with all relevant industry computer software, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. You also need strong technical skills, knowledge of graphic design concepts, and the ability to work well as part of a team. If you plan to take on additional responsibilities, such as writing content or editing, you may need additional qualifications. Some employers prefer applicants with at least an associate degree in graphic design, but it is not universal. You should receive on-the-job training in entry-level positions.
