How to become a dedicated owner operator?

Career: Dedicated Owner Operator

Dedicated Owner-Operators are first and foremost, excellent drivers. These individuals have significant truck-driving experience, clean driving records, and own their own vehicle. Companies may prefer a high school diploma or GED, but these credentials are not essential. Candidates are expected to hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), which includes a driver training program and a skills test. You will also be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical that includes a drug and alcohol testing component. Your truck must also meet specific size and insurance requirements depending on the company’s needs. Dedicated Owner-Operators should possess some heavy lifting abilities and may be asked to complete overnight hours as needed.
