Qualifications to become a CMM operator often include an associate’s degree or certificate as well as some experience in manufacturing. Some employers will sponsor an employees certification process. A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing may be required to advance in this career. CMM Operators typically work in an office setting but sometimes go on-site to inspect a machine. A CMM operator uses a coordinate measuring machine to measure parts, prototypes, and check dimensions against a blueprint. Their duties are to inspect fixtures and communicate any issues.
