To become a big data software engineer, you need a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or software engineering. Other qualifications include proficiency in software engineering, strong communication skills, and an eye for detail. You should also know big data query tools, such as Pig, Hive, and Impala, and know how to handle different platforms. You need experience with integration of data from multiple sources and know NoSQL databases, like HBase, Cassandra, and MongoDB. You should be comfortable with various ETL techniques and frameworks and different messaging systems, and you should also be able to work with cloud computing environments.
