The primary qualifications for becoming a basketball scorekeeper vary by position. Some recreational leagues ask for volunteers from among older teens or adults present while others require specialized training or years of experience. For a professional scorekeeping job, you may need to start as a volunteer and work your way up. All scorekeepers must be familiar with the rules of basketball and how scoring works in the game. Previous experience with playing some level of high school or college basketball is also useful, especially if your employer wants you to help set up equipment or participate in marketing activities.
