How do you become a tanker driver?

To become a tanker driver, you must first complete a high school diploma or GED certificate. Many tanker drivers then enroll in a commercial driver’s license training program (CDL) to gain the knowledge and skills needed for this job. You must pass whatever tests are required to obtain the kind of commercial license that you need to operate the tanker truck you intend to drive. Hazardous materials and oversize loads often require additional training or endorsements.
