Marine engineers are technical professionals that design the internal power and machinery of a boat, including the engine, electronics, lighting, hydraulics, pumps, and other controls. To become a marine engineer, you must have at least a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, although a master’s degree will open more job opportunities to you. Many marine engineers further specialize in one of the systems or concepts required for navigation, shipbuilding, or nautical safety.
