Although not always necessary, completing a carpentry apprenticeship can impart the skills you need to be a successful form carpenter. The length of an apprenticeship varies, but a benchmark is 48 months. To be a carpenter apprentice, you need to have a high school diploma, be at least 18 years old, and be physically able to perform the responsibilities expected of you in this job. Form carpentry often gets taught during the second year of apprenticeship. After you complete it, you are considered a journeyman, and the industry finds you to possess adequate qualifications to work.
