The qualifications to become a food packer do not include formal education, but certification to use a forklift and familiarity with other tools such as pallet jacks, vacuum packaging machines, and label makers are useful and sometimes required. Most positions provide a brief training period when you begin working. You should have good hand-eye coordination, be able to stay on schedule, and enjoy repetitive tasks while improving line efficiency. The ability to be on your feet most of the day while being physically fit to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds is necessary. It's beneficial to develop listening skills and become detail-oriented to follow specific instructions in this job.
