How do you become a first responder?

To become a first responder, pursue a career as a firefighter, police officer, or EMT. Each of these jobs has specific qualifications and training, but first responder certification is part of it. You must take training courses that cover rescue procedures, medical stabilization methods, and other immediate care techniques. Specific skills include CPR and AED operation. Each state’s certification requirements are different, but after coursework, you must complete an exam and then a recertification exam at regular intervals. You can become a certified first responder as a civilian, but this is merely a certification, not a career.
