How do people start mathematician careers?

The American Mathematics Society recommends that prospective mathematicians have at least a bachelor’s degree to obtain entry-level positions in the field. An interest and an aptitude in math are also important. A master's degree or doctorate is often preferred for positions, especially in academia. As a mathematician, there are a number of career paths available, from working as a college or university professor to becoming a research scientist.
