To become a chassis mechanic, you need a background in mechanics. You can learn these skills in a high school level mechanics class or may take an adult education course. It is also common to learn mechanical skills by shadowing a mechanic or working as an apprentice. Other qualifications include the ability to work outside in various weather conditions, excellent diagnostic skills, and the ability to fix problems effectively. You should be able to lift at least 50 pounds and must have your own hand tools for most jobs. Employers may require you to pass a background check and drug test.
