Schedulers and planners typically need three to five years of experience in planning or scheduling and a high school diploma or GED certificate. As a manager, you need five to ten years of experience overseeing turnaround projects. Some employers may require project managers to have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Many project managers work their way up to the position from different roles. During a turnaround and shutdown, you may work long hours, including nights and weekends, so you need to have a flexible schedule.
