The qualifications you need to become a quant, or quantitative analyst, include a master’s degree in mathematics, financial analysis, data and statistics, or a similar field of study, plus extensive hands-on experience in the field. Many quants begin an entry-level job or internship while enrolled in an undergraduate program and continue in that position for at least one or two years to gain the experience and skills they need for a quantitative analysis career. The skills you need to develop to become a quant include computing, programming, data analysis, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and verbal and written communication.
