How can I become a mud engineer?

Career: Mud Engineer

The primary qualifications for this position include an undergraduate or technical degree in a relevant field and experience working with drills. Alternatively, you can attend a "mud school" that provides a certificate and teaches students about topics like geology, methods, contamination, and drilling fluids; some large companies have their own schools. In a few cases, it is possible to work up to this position from another place on a drilling rig. To fulfill the duties and responsibilities of this job, you must be able to work for 12 consecutive hours or more, as well as possess basic clerical skills to document progress and keep your superiors appraised. Mud engineers typically spend extended periods on-site, then receive a long break before the next assignment.
