Gideons are members of The Gideons International, an evangelical Christian association founded in 1899. Their primary mission is to distribute free copies of the Bible in hotels, hospitals, schools, and other locations around the world. Gideons are usually business and professional men from evangelical churches who volunteer their time to promote Christian values and share scriptures. The organization is best known for placing Bibles in hotel rooms, but their outreach extends to other venues as well.
