What is frame relay?

Frame Relay is a high-performance wide area network (WAN) protocol designed for transmitting data over public and private networks. It uses packet-switching technology to efficiently transfer frames of data between network devices, making it suitable for connecting local area networks (LANs) and handling variable-sized bursts of traffic. Frame Relay was widely used in the 1990s and early 2000s for enterprise networking, but has largely been replaced by newer technologies such as MPLS and broadband internet connections. Despite its decline, understanding Frame Relay is still relevant for maintaining legacy systems and networks.
