What is an extern student?

Extern students are individuals, often in high school, college, or professional programs, who participate in short-term, experiential learning opportunities with an organization. Unlike interns, externs usually observe professionals, shadow employees, and gain insight into a specific field without taking on substantial responsibilities or projects. Externships are typically unpaid and last from a few days to a few weeks, providing students with a chance to explore career interests and network within their chosen industry.
